bNetS@vvy Writers Guidelines
The NEA Health Information Network’s
publication bNetS@vvy is looking
for parents, teachers, young people (ages
11-16) to share their solutions-oriented
stories about social networking, safe use of
new technologies, and other issues affecting
“tweens” online.
While our
articles center on personal stories, we seek to
go beyond an individual focus to help
adults understand how young people use new
technologies, and what adults can do to keep
kids safer. Articles should equip young
people and parents, teachers, and other adults
to work together to ensure safer use of
technologies. We are not interested in
sensationalized coverage, instead we seek
informative, compelling stories that link to
action ideas, tips, and solutions—and spark
positive interaction between young people and
adults.
What we're looking for:
- Stories should have a personal focus, but include specific information that will help people with similar problems in other communities.
- Our preferred word-length is 600 to 900 words.
- We also welcome the submission of original color photos to illustrate stories.
- Stories should be geared toward adults, with the ability to help them engage “tweens” in activities and learning together.
- Because we are primarily an online publication, the tone must be clear, straightforward, and compelling. Please use sub-headings and bullet points wherever appropriate. We use Associated Press style—but we can handle the proofing/editing; writers need not worry about it.
Conditions and copyright information:
With our payment, NEA-HIN buys all rights, but allows writers to re-sell material after a period of exclusivity. E-mail queries are preferred; please include clips or links. You can send queries to internetsafety@neahin.org.
